The charge, filed under section 129(a) of the Penal Code, alleges that on March 21, 2026, Tuju informed the Officer Commanding Station at Karen Police Station, Purity Kobia, that he was being traced by unknown assailants and had allegedly been abducted.
The incident reportedly took place at Entim Sidai Spa and Wellness Sanctuary in Karen, Lang’ata Subcounty.
Tuju appeared before Kibera Law Courts Chief Magistrate Stellar Atambo on Wednesday, April 8, 2026. The former CS denied the charge lodged against him, and the magistrate confirmed that a plea of not guilty was entered on his behalf.
“A plea of not guilty has been entered,” Magistrate Atambo stated during the proceedings. The court also considered preliminary matters, including the defense’s request for reasonable bond and bail terms.
Tuju’s legal team urged the court to consider his health status when determining the bond conditions. They highlighted that his medical needs should be factored into any bail arrangements, requesting leniency given the circumstances.
The defense emphasized that Tuju is a former public servant with an established reputation, requesting the court to grant a bail amount and terms that would allow him to attend to his health and legal obligations.
The case has been scheduled for further mention to allow the prosecution and defense to present additional documents and finalize bond conditions.
Legal analysts note that the proceedings are likely to attract significant public attention due to Tuju’s status as a former Cabinet Secretary and media personality.
