The United Democratic Alliance has postponed its grassroots elections in Kajiado County, moving the exercise from 23 April 2026 to Saturday 25 April 2026 in the latest adjustment to its internal electoral calendar.
The announcement was made in a statement issued by National Elections Board chairperson Anthony Mwaura, who did not disclose the specific reasons behind the change.
According to the statement, the revised date applies to all party members, leaders, aspirants and stakeholders in Kajiado County. The party urged participants to take note of the new schedule and make the necessary arrangements to participate in the exercise.
“Notice is hereby given to all Members, Leaders, Aspirants and Stakeholders of the United Democratic Alliance Party in Kajiado County that the grassroots elections previously scheduled for 23 April 2026 have been rescheduled to Saturday 25 April 2026,” the statement read in part.
Mwaura called on eligible members to prepare adequately and ensure their participation in the process, describing it as a key step in strengthening party structures at the local level.
Part of wider nationwide adjustments
The postponement in Kajiado comes amid a series of similar changes affecting the party’s grassroots elections across the country. In recent weeks, the United Democratic Alliance has been adjusting timelines for its repeat Phase II elections in multiple counties.
In a statement issued on 31 March 2026, the National Elections Board said the earlier rescheduling was informed by feedback from members in affected regions. Many had requested more time to register and verify their membership details ahead of the exercise.
The repeat Phase II grassroots elections had initially been scheduled for 9 April 2026 before being moved to 23 April 2026. The board said the decision followed extensive consultations with stakeholders across the counties involved.
The rescheduling affected 22 counties spanning different regions of the country. Coastal counties included Mombasa, Kwale, Kilifi, Tana River, Lamu and Taita Taveta, while northern and northeastern regions covered Garissa, Wajir, Mandera, Marsabit and Isiolo.
Eastern region counties such as Kitui, Machakos and Makueni were also affected alongside Turkana in the northwest. In western and Nyanza regions, the changes applied to Bungoma, Siaya, Kisumu, Migori, Kisii and Nyamira.
Party officials said the adjustments were necessary to ensure inclusivity and allow more members to take part in the grassroots elections, which form the foundation of the party’s internal leadership structure.
Grassroots elections in the United Democratic Alliance involve electing officials at the polling station, ward, constituency and county levels. The process is considered critical in shaping the party’s organizational strength ahead of future political contests.
While no specific explanation was given for the Kajiado postponement, observers note that logistical planning, member verification and coordination challenges have been recurring factors in the rescheduling of the elections in various counties.
