United Democratic Alliance nominated Senator Karen Nyamu criticized the United Opposition coalition Friday, describing it as uninspiring and motivated primarily by bitterness and vengeance against President William Ruto’s administration.
In a Facebook post, Nyamu expressed disappointment with what she characterized as a coalition lacking substantive policy vision. The senator, known for her outspoken support of the current administration, questioned the opposition’s ability to unite around positive goals.
“The opposition today is so uninspiring. All these guys have only one thing in common. United by bitterness and vengeance,” Nyamu wrote in the social media post.
She acknowledged individual qualities among opposition leaders, mentioning Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka as appearing sober, calling former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua a skilled politician, and describing PLP leader Martha Karua as a former role model. Despite these acknowledgments, Nyamu maintained that negative emotions drive the coalition’s agenda.
Unwavering loyalty to Ruto administration
The senator emphasized her commitment to President Ruto would remain constant regardless of her political circumstances. She stated that even if expelled from UDA, she would continue supporting the president’s agenda.
“I’m telling you even if I ever made a mistake and my party, UDA, showed me the door, you’d still see me supporting President William Ruto,” Nyamu wrote. “But I would never give bitterness space and join these.”
Her comments come as opposition leaders prepare for scheduled rallies across central Kenya. The coalition has announced events in Murang’a and Nyeri counties in coming weeks.
Opposition coalition prepares for 2027
The United Opposition has outlined plans for a church service followed by public rallies at multiple venues. Leadership includes Gachagua, Musyoka, DAP-K leader Eugene Wamalwa, and Karua, according to coalition statements.
The group has scheduled a February retreat to discuss coalition structures and develop a framework for selecting their presidential candidate. Leaders have indicated the flagbearer selection will occur several months before the 2027 General Election.
Opposition officials said they plan countrywide tours to encourage voter registration ahead of the polls. The coalition aims to present a unified challenge to the Kenya Kwanza administration.
Political analysts note that tensions between government and opposition forces have intensified as both sides position themselves for the next electoral cycle. The 2027 presidential race is expected to feature multiple candidates from various political formations.
