Democratic Republic of Congo President Felix Tshisekedi arrived in Tanzania on Monday for a two-day working visit aimed at strengthening economic, security and regional cooperation between the two countries.
Tshisekedi arrived in Zanzibar on Aug. 17, where he was received by Tanzania’s Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation Minister Mahmoud Thabit Kombo, Tanzania’s ambassador to the DRC Said J. Mshana and other senior government officials.
Tshisekedi is expected to hold talks with Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan on Tuesday on trade and investment, agriculture and food security, minerals, energy, transport and infrastructure, health and digital connectivity.
The two leaders are also expected to discuss peace and security in the Great Lakes region and other regional and international issues of mutual interest.
The visit comes as Tanzania and the DRC seek to deepen economic ties and strengthen cooperation in areas ranging from infrastructure and energy to mining and trade.
The discussions are also expected to focus on implementing existing bilateral agreements and other cooperation initiatives between the two countries.
The visit is intended to reinforce what Tanzania described as the historic and strategic relationship between the two countries while expanding economic and social cooperation.
