Egypt’s Interior Ministry has announced its annual reshuffle of senior police and security officials, appointing new leadership across several governorates and specialized police departments as part of a nationwide reorganization aimed at strengthening security operations and improving law enforcement efficiency.
The ministry said the appointments are intended to optimize the distribution of leadership responsibilities, enhance operational readiness, and improve the delivery of police services in line with evolving security requirements across the country.
Among the most significant appointments, Major General Hatem Hassan was named Director of Security for Giza, while Major General Hatem al-Haddad will head security operations in Alexandria. Major General Ashraf Abdel-Malik was appointed Director of Security for Sohag, Major General Ahmed Ezzat will oversee Minya, Major General Walid al-Shabrawi takes charge in Qalyubia, and Major General Sherif Abdel-Mawgoud was appointed Director of Security for Fayoum.
The reshuffle also extended to several specialized police departments responsible for tourism security and criminal investigations.
Major General Ahmed Khalaf was appointed Director of the General Directorate of Tourist Police, a unit responsible for securing Egypt’s archaeological sites, tourist destinations, and hospitality sector. Meanwhile, Major General Alaa Fathi will lead the General Directorate of Criminal Investigation in Giza, one of the country’s largest and busiest governorates.
In Cairo, Major General Alaa Bishandi retained his position as Director of the General Directorate of Criminal Investigation, maintaining continuity in the capital’s criminal investigation leadership. Major General Hani Shaarawi was appointed Deputy Director of Security for Giza, reinforcing the governorate’s senior command structure.
The Interior Ministry said the annual restructuring forms part of its long-standing policy of rotating senior leadership positions based on operational priorities, professional experience, and the changing demands of public security.
According to the ministry, the appointments are designed to improve coordination among security directorates, enhance responsiveness to emerging threats, strengthen crime prevention efforts, and maintain public order across Egypt’s governorates.
The ministry added that the annual reshuffle seeks to strike a balance between retaining experienced officers in strategic positions and promoting a new generation of senior officials capable of addressing increasingly complex security challenges.

The Interior Ministry says the process is aimed at improving institutional performance, supporting public safety initiatives, and ensuring security agencies remain equipped to respond effectively to local and national security priorities.
