Authorities dismantle al-Shabaab uniform supply chain in Eastleigh

Multi-agency security operation in Eastleigh uncovers hundreds of suspected militant uniforms, highlighting ongoing terror threats in urban hubs

Kenyan authorities have successfully disrupted a major Al-Shabaab uniform supply chain in the bustling Eastleigh area of Nairobi, recovering 725 combat uniforms and 1,440 T-shirts in an intelligence-led raid on Wednesday.

The operation, conducted by the Anti-Terrorism Police Unit and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations, marks a significant blow to militant logistics in East Africa.

The raid follows intelligence from Jubaland, Somalia, where security forces intercepted 25 bales of suspected Al-Shabaab uniforms on April 6.

This led investigators to trace an extensive cross-border network that funneled combat gear from China through the Port of Mombasa before distribution in Kenya via local parcel and cargo firms.

Authorities pinpointed Gaani Parcel Express in Nairobi’s KBS Garage along 12th Street as a key storage point. Officers discovered the uniforms temporarily housed at Vision Point Express due to limited space.

Manager Omar Elmi Issack is now assisting investigators regarding the coordination of these operations.

Investigation expanded to Safe Link Cargo at Soma Towers, resulting in the seizure of 37 additional bales of uniforms.

These items, originally from China, were cleared through Mombasa disguised as consolidated shipments. Employees such as Abdiftah Aden Muhammed are cooperating with authorities to unravel the network.

Detectives have identified several key suspects, including Muhammed, Sharif, and Abdikadir, all of whom are now under ATPU supervision.

The uniforms and related evidence have been meticulously cataloged to support ongoing legal action.

The operation has sparked widespread discussion online, with residents praising security efforts while noting Eastleigh’s vulnerability to criminal networks exploiting dense urban areas.

Experts highlight the critical role of cross-border intelligence cooperation in preempting terror threats.

“This operation demonstrates the importance of multi-agency coordination in counterterrorism,” said a DCI spokesperson. Authorities urge the public to report suspicious activity, emphasizing vigilance in urban logistics networks.

The seizure of Al-Shabaab uniforms in Nairobi signifies a major disruption to militant operations in East Africa, reinforcing Kenya’s commitment to national security.
