EllaClaw upgrade powers TECNO’s Agentic AI vision

The cloud-based AI agent is intended to understand user requests, support multi-step tasks and reduce the need to switch between different apps, while requiring user confirmation before carrying out sensitive actions.

TECNO has unveiled an upgraded version of EllaClaw, its beta-stage artificial intelligence (AI) mobile agent, as the smartphone maker seeks to make AI-powered assistance more practical for users in emerging markets, including Kenya.

The latest version of EllaClaw is designed to move beyond conversational AI by helping users complete everyday tasks across multiple applications while managing core phone functions such as battery life, mobile data usage and storage optimization.

The company said the cloud-based AI agent is intended to understand user requests, support multi-step tasks and reduce the need to switch between different apps, while requiring user confirmation before carrying out sensitive actions.

Powered by more than 40 AI-powered “Smart Skills”, EllaClaw can help optimize device performance by freeing memory, identifying applications that consume excessive battery power, reducing overheating during intensive use and monitoring mobile data consumption based on users’ habits.

TECNO said the AI assistant is also designed to learn user preferences over time, enabling features such as personalized morning briefings that combine calendar events, weather updates, travel plans and news, as well as reminders for recurring personal activities.

The upgraded platform also introduces cross-application functionality, allowing users, with their permission, to perform tasks such as booking rides, checking connected smart devices and receiving shopping assistance through natural language commands.

“Our goal is to create AI that helps simplify everyday tasks, reduce friction and make advanced experiences more accessible, while ensuring transparency and user control remain central to the experience,” said Jack Guo, General Manager of TECNO.

The company said EllaClaw remains in internal testing and closed beta development, with details on commercial availability to be announced at a later date.

TECNO, which operates in more than 70 markets, has increasingly focused on integrating AI capabilities across its portfolio of smartphones, tablets, laptops, wearable devices and smart home products as competition intensifies in the global mobile AI market.
