St. Andrew’s School, Turi has entered into a strategic academic partnership with St. George’s University (SGU) School of Medicine in Grenada, marking a significant step towards expanding international medical education opportunities for students pursuing careers in healthcare.

The affiliation is expected to provide eligible students at the Kenyan institution with a structured pathway to SGU’s Doctor of Medicine programme while strengthening career guidance through enhanced academic engagement and exposure to global medical education.Under the partnership, students will participate in a series of academic initiatives, including medical career webinars, clinical workshops, one-on-one advisory sessions and university engagement programmes designed to familiarise them with the demands of medical training and the profession.

The collaboration also provides qualifying students with opportunities to be considered for partial scholarships, guaranteed admission interviews and membership in SGU’s Global Medic Club, an online platform that offers academic resources and mentorship for aspiring medical practitioners.

For St. Andrew’s Turi, one of Kenya’s oldest and most respected independent schools, the partnership complements its long-standing commitment to preparing students for admission into leading universities around the world. Founded in 1931, the institution has built a strong reputation for academic excellence through the British curriculum, consistently guiding students into highly competitive professional courses, including medicine.

Speaking on the significance of the affiliation, Mike Field, Head of Careers at St. Andrew’s School, Turi, said the partnership would broaden the opportunities available to students considering careers in medicine while providing families with greater access to reliable information about international medical education.

“This affiliation represents an important addition to the guidance we provide our students as they consider competitive professional pathways such as medicine. At St. Andrew’s Turi, we are committed to ensuring that our learners and their families have access to transparent, accurate information about international medical education options. By working closely with St. George’s University, we are able to offer structured engagement, clearer insight into the programme and early exposure to the academic expectations required for entry into medical training,” he said.

Field noted that the initiative would enable students to make informed academic decisions as they prepare for university and future careers in healthcare.

On her part, Aurelie Lily Phommarack, Assistant Director for International Academic Affiliates at St. George’s University, said the collaboration aligns with the university’s broader mission of supporting aspiring doctors through partnerships with high-performing secondary schools across the world.

“We are pleased to formalise our affiliation with St. Andrew’s Turi and to support its students as they explore careers in medicine. Through this collaboration, students will gain early insight into our Doctor of Medicine programme and the opportunity to train within a global clinical network of affiliated hospitals and healthcare centres. We look forward to welcoming future graduates from St. Andrew’s Turi into our international community of medical students,” she said.

Beyond admissions, the partnership is expected to expose students to the academic expectations of medical school at an earlier stage, enabling them to better prepare for one of the world’s most rigorous professions while connecting them to an international network of educators and healthcare practitioners.

St. George’s University, established in 1976, has grown into one of the world’s leading international medical schools, enrolling students and faculty from more than 150 countries. Its School of Medicine offers a globally recognised Doctor of Medicine programme and provides clinical training through a network of more than 75 affiliated hospitals and healthcare centres across the United States and the United Kingdom.

Education stakeholders say collaborations of this nature are increasingly becoming instrumental in bridging the gap between secondary education and specialised professional training, equipping students with greater global exposure and access to internationally recognised academic pathways.

The partnership between St. Andrew’s Turi and St. George’s University is therefore expected to strengthen opportunities for aspiring Kenyan medical students while reinforcing both institutions’ shared commitment to academic excellence, innovation and the development of future healthcare professionals.
