Ministry of Tourism debunks viral protest notice targeting Rebecca Miano

In a statement, the Ministry said the document is not an authentic communication and described its circulation as a deliberate attempt to mislead the public, tarnish the reputation of the Cabinet Secretary, and divert attention from the Ministry's ongoing efforts to transform Kenya's tourism and wildlife sectors.

A document circulating on social media purporting to announce a planned protest against Tourism Cabinet Secretary Rebecca Miano has been flagged as fake after multiple inconsistencies raised doubts about its authenticity.

The document, titled “Notice of Intended Peaceful Assembly, Demonstration and Procession,” claims to have been addressed to the Nairobi Regional Police Commander and alleges that a group of “concerned citizens” plans to stage a demonstration in Nairobi on 3 July 2026, over the Cabinet Secretary’s performance and conduct.

However, a review of the document revealed several irregularities, including broken and incomplete sentences, inconsistent formatting and drafting errors that are not typical of official correspondence.

The inconsistencies have led to the document being treated as unverified, with no evidence confirming that it is a genuine notice of a planned public demonstration.

The circulation of the document has renewed concerns about the spread of misinformation on social media, where fabricated documents can quickly gain traction and mislead the public.

Authorities have urged members of the public to verify information before sharing it and to rely on credible sources, particularly when dealing with content that could cause confusion, panic or disrupt public order.

They also cautioned that the circulation of false or unverified documents undermines public trust and can fuel unnecessary speculation.
