NTSA launches digital Log books and E-Vehicle registration

Kenyan motorists will soon access digital logbooks online through NTSA’s newly launched electronic vehicle registration and transfer platform nationwide.

The National Transport and Safety Authority has unveiled a new digital vehicle registration system that will allow motorists to access logbooks online and transfer vehicle ownership electronically without visiting NTSA offices.

The authority said the initiative is part of ongoing government efforts to digitize public services and improve efficiency within Kenya’s transport sector.

Speaking during a press conference held at South Eastern Kenya University, NTSA Director Nashon Kindiwa said the transition to electronic vehicle registration and digital logbooks is expected to simplify services for motorists while lowering operational costs.

Kindiwa noted that the new platform will officially become available to the public starting June 10.

According to NTSA, the digital platform is designed to reduce paperwork, speed up transactions and minimize delays often experienced during manual vehicle registration and ownership transfer processes.

Motorists will be able to log into the NTSA online portal and access digital copies of their vehicle logbooks. The system will also support electronic ownership transfers, allowing buyers and sellers to complete transactions remotely.

The authority believes the move will significantly reduce congestion at NTSA offices while improving transparency and accountability in vehicle registration services.

Kindiwa said digitization remains a key component in the government’s broader strategy to modernize public services through technology-driven solutions.

The NTSA has increasingly embraced digital platforms in recent years, including services offered through the government’s eCitizen portal.

The introduction of digital logbooks is expected to benefit thousands of motorists who have long complained about lengthy processing periods and the inconvenience of traveling to NTSA offices for documentation services.

Industry stakeholders say the move could also help reduce cases of fraud linked to fake ownership documents by creating a centralized digital verification system.

Vehicle dealers and transport operators are among groups expected to benefit from the faster processing times once the system becomes fully operational.

The authority has encouraged motorists to familiarize themselves with the online process before the official rollout date.

NTSA officials added that the system has been designed with security measures intended to protect vehicle ownership data and ensure transactions remain secure.

The launch comes amid a wider push by the Kenyan government to digitize public services across multiple sectors.

Over the past few years, state agencies have increasingly shifted services online to improve accessibility and reduce inefficiencies associated with manual systems.

Transport sector reforms have remained a major focus area, particularly as authorities seek to improve service delivery and strengthen road transport management across the country.

Kindiwa said the authority will continue enhancing digital services to ensure motorists receive faster and more reliable support.

The NTSA has urged vehicle owners to monitor official communication channels for detailed guidance on how to use the new system once it goes live in June.
