Kalonzo raises alarm over escalating political violence, seeks accountability

Kalonzo expressed concern over what he described as repeated attacks targeting opposition leaders and questioned the conduct of security agencies in responding to the incidents, urging the National Police Service to execute its constitutional mandate impartially and guarantee the security of all Kenyans.

Wiper Party Leader H.E. Kalonzo Musyoka has strongly condemned the recent wave of political violence in the country, warning that the incidents pose a grave threat to Kenya’s democracy, national cohesion and the rule of law.

Speaking in Nairobi during a joint media briefing by the United Alternative Government principals, Kalonzo cited recent incidents in Kisumu and Nyahururu, calling for independent, transparent and credible investigations to ensure those responsible are held accountable.

Joined by Hon. Justin Muturi and Hon. Martha Karua, Kalonzo maintained that every Kenyan has a constitutional right to participate in lawful political activities without fear, intimidation or violence, emphasizing that democratic freedoms must be protected regardless of political affiliation.

On the forthcoming Ol Kalou by election, Kalonzo called on the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to deliver a free, fair and credible electoral process that reflects the sovereign will of the people.

The opposition leader further cautioned against the normalization of political violence, warning that such actions undermine democratic institutions and threaten the country’s stability. He appealed to political leaders, security agencies and citizens to uphold peace, exercise restraint and respect the Constitution.

Kalonzo reaffirmed that protecting democratic space, safeguarding constitutional rights and upholding the rule of law remain fundamental to preserving Kenya’s unity and strengthening the country’s democratic governance.
