Wiper Patriotic Front and Azimio la Umoja Party Leader Kalonzo Musyoka has intensified his grassroots engagement in Embu County, leading a high profile delegation of political leaders in a series of public rallies aimed at galvanising citizens around the push for accountable governance and stronger democratic institutions.
The engagements followed a church service at ACK St. Paul’s Cathedral in Embu County and saw Kalonzo traverse several centres in the county, where he interacted with residents and articulated the United Alternative Government’s vision for the country.
He was accompanied by Manyatta MP Gitonga Mukunji, Senators Lenny Kivuti and Agnes Kavindu, Machakos Deputy Governor Francis Mwangangi, Embakasi South MP Julius Mawathe, Makueni County Assembly Speaker Douglas Mbilu, former Cabinet Secretary Cleopa Mailu and former Principal Secretary Cyrus Njiru.
Also in the delegation were Wiper Patriotic Front National Executive Council members Advocate Ndegwa Njiru and Kamau Mbiu, WPF Deputy Organising Secretary Muriuki Ndwiga, Members of County Assemblies drawn from different parts of the country and other political leaders.
The leaders began their public engagements at Gategi Market in Mbeere South Constituency before proceeding to Makima Market and later Kiritiri Market, attracting residents eager to listen to the opposition leadership and raise issues affecting their communities.
The rallies provided a platform for discussions on a broad spectrum of national and local concerns, with the leaders reaffirming their commitment to pursuing a political alternative anchored on accountability, inclusivity, constitutionalism and responsive governance.
Kalonzo also used the engagements to revisit the impeachment of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, castigating Members of Parliament who voted for his removal and questioning the fairness of the process through which he was ousted from office.
He accused the lawmakers of failing to accord Gachagua a fair hearing, arguing that constitutional offices must be protected by due process and that Parliament should never be reduced to an arena for political expediency.
“The way Rigathi Gachagua was impeached was unfair. He was not accorded a fair hearing, and that is unacceptable in a constitutional democracy,” Kalonzo said.
The Wiper leader further took issue with remarks attributed to Suna East MP Junet Mohamed regarding the alleged financial inducements surrounding the impeachment, accusing Junet and other lawmakers involved in the process of taking bribes.
“If MPs were taking money to impeach a Deputy President, then Kenyans must ask what kind of Parliament we have. Junet Mohamed and those who participated must tell Kenyans the truth. Rigathi deserved a fair hearing,” Kalonzo said.
Kalonzo maintained that the allegations surrounding the impeachment process raise serious questions about the integrity of parliamentary proceedings and the responsibility of elected leaders to uphold the Constitution.
He said the country cannot build strong democratic institutions if constitutional processes are manipulated for political purposes, insisting that every Kenyan, regardless of political affiliation or position, deserves fairness and equal protection under the law.
Kalonzo further declared that he and other opposition leaders were determined to “komboa Kenya” and restore sanity, accountability and professionalism in public administration.
“We are going to komboa Kenya. Together with other opposition leaders, we are determined to restore sanity in public administration, strengthen our institutions and return this country to the path of constitutionalism, accountability and responsible governance,” Kalonzo said.
He said the political transformation envisaged by the opposition would place citizens at the centre of governance and restore confidence in public institutions, which he argued must serve Kenyans without discrimination or political interference.
Kalonzo’s tour comes against the backdrop of heightened political activity ahead of the 2027 General Election, with opposition formations increasingly seeking to deepen their presence at the grassroots and build stronger connections with voters across the country.
The United Alternative Government has continued to position itself as a platform for political renewal, promising to strengthen democratic institutions, promote accountable leadership and place citizens at the centre of national governance.
The Embu engagements further underscored the opposition’s determination to take its message beyond traditional political strongholds and establish a broader national footprint ahead of the next electoral contest.
